Founded
1933
Jayantilal Thakkar & Co. was founded in 1933 by the Late Shri Jayantilal K. Thakkar, then a young man of 25.
ICAI’s earliest members.
1949
He was one of the earliest members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, which was founded in 1949. The firm has, since those early days, gone from strength to strength.
Inducted its first partner
1961
The firm, which started out as a sole proprietorship, inducted its first partner, Shri Dilip J. Thakkar, in 1961.
Expansion
1966
The number of partners expanded to 4 in 1966 with the induction of Late Shri Ashok J.Thakkar and Shri Chimanbhai V. Thakker
Evolution of Team
2006
After the demise of Late Shri Jayantilal Thakkar in the year 1977, the remaining 3 partners continued. The Firm had inducted two more Partners, Mr. Rajesh P. Shah and Mr. Viral A. Merchant in 2006
Growing and Learning
2021
Late Shri. Ashok J. Thakkar passed away in February 2012. Since then the Firm continues with remaining four partners. With effect from April 2021, Shri Chimanbhai V. Thakker retired from the firm and Mr. Vishal D. Shah was introduced as a Partner.
Expansion
2023
With the growing client’s need for all services under one roof, the firm expanded its service lines and introduced GST vertical. Mr. Naresh Sheth joined the firm as a partner heading GST division with effect from 1st July 2023.

One of the Oldest Firms in Practice
Since 1933Jayantilal Thakkar & Co. was founded in 1933 by the Late Shri Jayantilal K. Thakkar, then a young man of 25. He was one of the earliest members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, which was founded in 1949. The firm has, since those early days, gone from strength to strength. The firm, started out as a sole proprietorship, inducted its first partner, Shri Dilip J. Thakkar, who is the senior-most partner in the firm and widely reputed as a pioneer of FERA/FEMA practice amongst those in the accounting and consulting professions. The number of partners later expanded to four with the induction of Shri Ashok J.Thakkar and Shri Chimanbhai V. Thakker heading Audit verticals in the firm. Two more Partners were admitted, Shri Rajesh P. Shah and Shri Viral A. Merchant who continue to spearhead the firm to new heights. In 2021, Shri Vishal D. Shah was admitted as a partner appending his expertise to our tax practise, following the retirement of Shri Chimanbhai V. Thakker. Further, in July 2023, Shri Naresh Sheth joined the firm as a partner and leads GST vertical of the firm. Currently, Shri Dilip Jayantilal Thakkar heads the firm providing his valuable professional knowledge and experience along with other partner Shri Rajesh P. Shah, Shri Viral A. Merchant, Shri Vishal D. Shah and Shri Naresh Sheth.

He is the senior-most partner in the firm and widely reputed as a pioneer of FERA/FEMA practice amongst those in the accounting and consulting professions. Shri Dilip Thakkar oversees the advisory services division as well as the tax practice. His wide experience has enabled him to contribute positively as a member of the Board of Directors of more than 25 companies in India and overseas. He has completed two terms as the Chairman of the Indian Advisory Boards of two international banks. He is the Past President of Bombay Chartered Accountants Society.

CA Rajesh P. Shah
He is a C.A. and a Law graduate from Mumbai. He specializes in taxation and foreign exchange regulatory matters and has contributed to the growth of the Firm’s advisory practice over 23 years. His major area of expertise is in Education, Construction & Entertainment (ECE Sector). Broad areas of professional expertise include consulting on Foreign Collaborations, Joint Ventures, Franchising, Strategic Alliances, NonResident Investment, International Tax Structuring and Tax Management, Strategic Business and Corporate Advisory, Tax and Corporate Laws Advisory, Legal Advisory and Consultancy Services, Legal Documentation and Legal Matters, Appearing before Reserve Bank officer for Compounding, Enforcement Directorate and PMLA matters. He has been Ex Chairman of International Tax Committee of Chamber of Tax Consultants (CTC) for continuous period of two years and currently Chairman of Research & Publication Committee of CTC.

He is the audit partner with over two decades of professional experience. He is widely reputed to be a specialist in the Statutory audit and Tax audits. He has independently handled Ind AS implementation in listed as well as other large unlisted public companies/private limited companies. His broad areas of professional expertise include audits in manufacturing companies engaged in tyre ,textiles, pharma ,paper etc. and trading organisations engaged in automobile sector, chemicals etc. He also specializes in various kinds of audit and due diligences in Entertainment industry. Further he has handles audit of sizable educational institutions. During the course of his professional career, he has diverse experiences in audit, accounting and Ind AS implementation with many business organizations.

He is eloquent and handles various Tax, International tax and FEMA matters. His professional experience includes tax & compliance advisory to various Indian and International clientele. He regularly represents before different tax authorities for assessments and appeals and specialises in handling of E-based (including faceless) tax compliances. He has given many lectures on various forums across the country on Foreign exchange regulations and authored articles on FEMA. He is convenor of International Tax Committee at The Chamber of Tax Consultants, Mumbai.

Since founding his own practice in 1982, Naresh Sheth has amassed over 42 years of remarkable experience in indirect tax, offering expert advice across diverse sectors like real estate, manufacturing, media and entertainment, shipping and logistics, charitable trusts, etc. He is a pioneer in the real estate sector, providing invaluable advice on joint development agreements, society redevelopment, slum rehabilitation projects, etc. He has authored three editions of the Service Tax publication on Real Estate for the BCAS and contributed to the GST section of their publication titled 'FAQs on Charitable Trusts'. He has chaired the IDT Committee of CTC and remains an active core member of the IDT committees of BCAS and CTC. He was a special invitee to the ICAI'S IDT Committee in 2016-17 and 2017-18. A visiting faculty trainer at NACIN, he trains State and Central GST officers, contributes to the CTC Journal, writes for professional magazines, and regularly speaks at professional forums.
